Description
From the legendary Adi Badenhorst, one of South Africa’s most charismatic and talented winemakers, comes this outstanding Rhône-style red from the rugged Swartland region. The 2024 vintage is a masterful blend—predominantly Shiraz, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Cinsault. This latest release is arguably their finest yet, delivering rich, dark fruit layered with spice, earth, and a hint of savoury complexity. It’s beautifully balanced and unmistakably Rhône-like in character, but with the sun-kissed warmth and wild charm of the Cape. A must-try for lovers of bold, characterful reds, or as an alternative to Cote du Rhone.
Smells
A whiff of liquorice and mineral over top of sweet red and blackberry fruit, with complex bramble, leather, clove, and warm earth aromas. A very alluring bouquet.
Tastes
Soft and sweetly fruited with red liquorice, plum and spice against fine tannins and bright acidity, it’s like a Cotes du Rhone with an Afrikaner accent. Very enjoyable, medium-bodied red of great character; the wine will be great drinking with a braai or some BBQ game meats, now through 2028+. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
