Founded in 1948, a few months after India’s independence, this family-owned company, based in Bangalore in the south of the country, produces whiskey in Scottish traditions while claiming its Indian origins. In fact, it uses almost exclusively barley grown in the fertile plains at the foot of the Himalayas. Established at almost 1000 meters above sea level and subject to a tropical climate, its warehouses, where mainly bourbon casks rest, are real accelerators of aging.

At the beginning of 2014, peat malt was so scarce that it was almost impossible to obtain it. In this situation, Amrut’s Chairman Shri Neelakanta Rao R. Jagdale took a bold step to smoke-dry his own barley with peat from Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This is the result. Only 918 bottles released globally.

Nose: Gourmand, on candied tropical fruits. Cane sugar develops into notes of caramel and vanilla topping, complemented by unique phenolic notes that come from the maturation in ex-bourbon casks.
Taste: Silky, with flavors of tropical fruits, salted butter caramel and honey. The vanilla top is also present on the palate. In the middle of the palate, notes of lemon and banana appear. The esters, brought about by the long duration of ripening in a tropical climate, are very soft.
Finish: Refreshing and peaty with notes of vanilla.
