Description
Vermentino, in the words of Italian wine scholar Ian D’Agata, is “a grape shrouded in mystery”. Various theories postulate its origins in Spain (which ruled Sardinia for 400 years), the island of Corsica or the region of Liguria (where it is known as Pigato). One thing however is certain; where ever it is cultivated in the various regions of Italy and the world, Vermentino makes for delicious wine!
Sardinia’s most acclaimed producer of quality wines, Argiolas, was founded in 1938 and has since forged an International reputation as one of Italy’s top wineries, alongside the likes of Antinori and Pio Cesare. Costamolino is their flagship Vermentino and comes from 60 Ha of land located sub-region of Trexenta in southwestern Sardinia. Fresh and vibrant, it shows Vermentino’s typical notes of yellow fruit and blossoms (in particular broom) and the aromatic Mediterranean scrub. Saline and fruity, it has plenty of body and structure and pairs perfectly well with seafood-based dishes, vegetables and mains of fish and white meat.
