Intense, powerful Barolo
The Costa di Bussia Barolo DOCG Bussia Luigi Arnulfo presents itself in a dense garnet red with subtle brick-red reflections. On the nose it is decidedly complex with hints of black currant, plum and dried cherry. Fine spice, dried flowers, as well as some licorice and grilled herbs such as rosemary round off the fruity part of the aroma. The Barolo unfolds its full power and energy on the palate. The Nebbiolo has an intense mouthfeel with a successful combination of fruit, spice and wood influence. Beautifully polished tannins and the important acid structure are part of the good structure. Its enormous density and a long, exciting finish with subtle roasted notes crown the overall experience.
A tribute to Luigi Arnulfo
Luigi Arnulfo founded the Costa di Bussia winery in 1874. It is located in Monforte, the southernmost of the seven Barolo municipalities. As early as 1890, Luigi Arnulfo exported Barolo to California under the name “vino fino”. Costa di Bussia was a pioneer in Barolo because they vinified single vineyards. The Barolo Luigi Arnulfo is a tribute to the founder. It comes from the top location Bussia, which is only 0.81 hectares in size. Luigi Arnulfo himself created the label in 1883.
Long barrel aging
The terroir is predominantly marl, which is the basis for powerful and delicate wines with good aging potential. Only the best grapes are harvested when they are overripe in the best vintages in order to obtain a more intense color. The Barolo matures for 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels. This gives the Nebbiolo its special taste experience.
