Greywacke Wild Sauvignon Blanc

Greywacke Wild Sauvignon Blanc

Wild indeed. Kevin Judd of Cloudy Bay fame has produced one of the funkiest most interesting expression of Sauvignon you’ll ever taste.

Greywacke

Kevin Judd is one of Marlborough’s pioneer winemakers whose career is intrinsically linked with the global profile of New Zealand wine. Greywacke (pronounced ‘graywacky’) is a soil type found throughout much of New Zealand consisting of grey sandstone with a high clay content and plenty of coarse-grained particles giving stony, free-draining soils.

What The Critics Say

95/100 The Real Review, Nick Butler

“Retaining a healthy pale-yellow lustre. Loads of smoky charm, a measured dose of sulfides, toasty oak and lemon rind. A lovely wine. While concentrated and pure, there’s a subtlety to it that takes it to a better place. Terrific winemaking. 19 MAR 2020.” Drink 2020 – 2024

93/100 The Real Review, Bob Campbell MW

“Fermented in barrel using indigenous yeasts and transferred out of oak before the following harvest, with a further eight months on lees in tank. The lees, struck flint and subtle oak influence sit nicely alongside bright, herbal-dominant sauvignon blanc characters. 29 FEB 2020.” Drink 2019 – 2023

95/100 Huon Hooke (2016 vintage)

“Light, bright yellow colour; the bouquet smoky, barrel-influenced, complex and intriguing. It’s restrained, delicate and dry, crisp and balanced with softness and drinkability. The oak is very discreet on the palate. The wine is quite delicate and restrained for a barrel-fermented savvy. It still has a varietal signature. I like its subtlety. A delicious wine.”
