Description
Kewin (Kéké) Descombes has grown up amongst the vines of Beaujolais at the heals of his father, the great Georges Descombes.
At the age of just 21, Kéké completed his first solo vintage. His father gave him around 15 acres of vines in Morgon to get his own roll on, and over time, he’s added to that collection.
He makes his wines with a similar natural philosophy to his father looking for vineyard purity to show through in each cuveé.
This is textbook modern Beaujolais – enlivened with sweet blue fruits, flowers, earth and spice. This is a very popular cuveé from the younger guard of the region. It sells out each year in short order.
Georges Descombes
Georges Descombes, son of a Beaujolais vigneron, drew inspiration for his label from Marcel Lapierre’s legendary wines. Taking the reins in 1988, he manages 15 hectares across Beaujolais regions, firmly aligning with the “natural” movement and holding organic certification—a rarity among peers. Georges implements a hands-off approach, hand-harvesting whole clusters, slow-pressing in an antique vertical press, and fermenting with natural yeasts in a low-temperature semi-carbonic maceration. Minimal sulfur is used.
Recognized as the unofficial fifth member of Beaujolais’ “Gang of Four,” Georges elevates traditional farming to new heights, certifying both inherited and acquired vineyards as organic. His wines, celebrated for exceptional quality, rank among Beaujolais’ finest. The masterful winemaking, rooted in excellent farming, reveals beautifully complex aromas. The palate, showcasing gorgeous fruit unaffected by excess sulfur dioxide, delivers impeccably balanced, clean, and enduringly long wines. Georges Descombes’ commitment to organic viticulture and hands-off winemaking solidifies his position as a leader among Beaujolais’ natural producers.
