Mills Reef Elspeth Chardonnay is the winery’s flagship Chardonnay. Elspeth (named after the winemaker’s Grandmother, Elspeth Preston) sits right up there with Hawke’s Bay’s wine elite. If it’s Elspeth slapped on the label you know you’ve got one classy little number in your hot little hands!
- Mills Reef’s flagship Chardonnay, only produced in great vintages
- Five of the previous seven releases have scored 95/100 from Master of Wine Bob Campbell!
- Using single vineyard fruit, aged 12 months in 100% French oak (a third of that in expensive new oak)
This is hand picked fruit from prized single vineyards on the Ruahine foothills that flank the Ngaruroro River – a hotspot for serious wicked Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay. Aged for 12 months in 100% French oak, 32% in expensive new oak. This is a wine released to drink well early on but it’s sure as hell got the legs to go the distance, try 7-8 years from vintage.
