Obsidian Reserve The Obsidian 2007
750ml
Description
2007 “The Obsidian” Reserve Tasting Notes
This vintage typically features the classic “five-way” blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot), but with a slightly higher emphasis on Merlot and Malbec due to the cooler spring of 2007 affecting the later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon.
-
The Nose: A very evocative bouquet. You’ll find cedar, pencil shavings, and dried violets. There is a distinct “salty” or maritime mineral note, often described as crushed oyster shell or wet stone, which is a hallmark of the Onetangi Valley.
-
The Palate: The 2007 has a tighter, more linear structure than the 2002. Expect briary black fruit, dried cherry, and black olive tapenade. The tannins are firm but fine-grained, providing a sophisticated “grip” that has softened beautifully with nearly two decades of age.
-
The Finish: Clean and persistent, with lingering notes of anise, black pepper, and a touch of tobacco leaf.
