Description
2008 "The Obsidian" Reserve Tasting Notes
This vintage typically follows the flagship blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (~38%), Merlot (~30%), Cabernet Franc (~14%), and a small percentage of Malbec and Petit Verdot.
-
The Nose: Very expressive and aromatic. You will find dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit that has now evolved into liquorice, cedar, and dried tobacco. There is a distinct "savory-sweet" complexity, similar to an old library or high-quality French polished furniture.
-
The Palate: In its prime, 2008 was known for its "very firm, tight fruit tannins." Today, those tannins have resolved into a vigorous, structured core that still provides plenty of life. Expect flavors of blackberry leather, anise, and a lingering spice.
-
The Finish: The finish is long and remarkably smooth, supported by a line of juicy acidity that was a hallmark of the 2008 growing season.
