Description
The refined, savoury 2020 vintage (5*) is a rare marriage of Syrah, Montepulciano, Merlot and Malbec, grown on Waiheke Island and blended from the top six barrels. Deeply coloured, it is mouthfilling and highly concentrated, with blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak, impressive complexity, supple tannins and a finely textured finish. Well worth cellaring.
Dark purple and blue ruby and purples with plenty of concentration lead to a bouquet of blue and purple fruits, dark cherry and blackberry, boysenberry then spices of toast and clove, vanilla and wild forest berries. Concentration and complexity, youth and power. On the palate a dry wine with core flavours of dark berries, some chocolate and spices. Tannins are polished, ripe and in abundance, there’s plenty of mouthfeel and gritty textures. Acidity spreads the fruit and barrel flavours across the palate. A lengthy focused, dry wine with complexity and power. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2035.
