Description
100% Chenin Blanc from various parcels in the Deux-Sevres and Vienne departments of the Loire Valley.
"This is splendidly expressed on the nose, showing golden apple, wet wool, dried herb and citrus peel aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and flow, wonderfully structured by brilliantly pitched acidity, finishing long and harmonious with complex flavours" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"This 100% Chenin Blanc captures the aromas and flavours of fresh yellow and red apple, some classic tufa chalk mineral qualities and a pith-like quality adding to the mouthfeel and freshness. Crisp and dry with flavours driven by the acid line, this also shows a touch of herb and whisper of green mango fruit. Dry, balanced, well made and ready to drink, ideally with fresh seafood or dishes with truffle." - Cam Douglas MS
"We have always viewed Saumur Blanc as the ultimate fish and chip wine! Crisp and dry with enough flavour to mop up all the goodness of the classic kiwi fish and chips meal. The Cave de Saumur Blanc 'Tuffeau' continues this tradition and should be on everyone's radar for summer. The wine offers vibrant aromas of green apple, pear, and citrus, with subtle floral notes. On the palate it is crisp and refreshing, with bright acidity and flavors of zesty lemon, juicy stone fruits, and a hint of minerality. Its clean, lively finish makes it a perfect pairing for seafood, fresh salads, or FISH AND CHIPS!"
The label name takes its name from the old tufa quarries on which the cellar Cave de Saumur is located. Tufa is extracted more often in the basement of hillsides bordering a River, thereby creating galleries or cellars of several kilometres. The blocks of rock could be loaded on boats. Soft and luminous, limestone situated on great vineyards, the tufa stone signed the cultural identity of the Loire through its countless castles, abbeys, cities and villages.
